Arwen's Blood Red Gown - I wanted to challenge myself with this specific gown, due to it being very simple but also very detailed. This dress consists of dark blue velvet for the body of the dress, red & gold paisley fabric for the top of the sleeve, then red velvet for the rest of the sleeve. Also, the dress has lots of beading around the neck and mid-arm.

While I was researching this costume, I came across another seamstress that actually ordered Sari border trim for this. To me, this was extremely clever because it has all the hand beading that this dress needs.

I found the pattern I wanted to use to make this style, Simplicity 4940.

I attached the collar to the dress. Honestly, the simplicity pattern directions for attaching the collar weren't very clear, but what I ended up doing was hemming the collar and then topstitching it to the dress.

The sleeves were extremely detailed.

I ended up lining the sleeves with the same velvet material as the top sleeve, which made them heavier in the end.

I hand-stitched the beaded trim onto the fabric. I loved this effect because it really looks similar to Arwen's sleeves.

Overall this dress wasn't that difficult to make. It just took a lot of time to get the details really close to the movie accurately.

I will say this though, it surprised me with how heavy the top part of the dress weighed due to the fabric and extra details.

Medieval Maiden Gown

The pictures above are of the different custom Medieval Maiden gowns I've created in the past few weeks for myself and a client. I can create these in any color of linen and would match the trim up nicely for an elegant look.

Accessories

Belts & Jewelry

Personally, I think a good medieval/renaissance costume has to have a belt. This is the one-stop-shop for that exact thing and more!

She has multiple styles of belts along with jewelry that would make your costume authentic. I've purchased the Maiden Hera Girdle Belt in an XL and it fits perfectly. The good thing about these belts is there is a little hook that makes them adjustable.

If you're a fan of King Arthur Pendragon, she makes many things with the dragon symbol.

Also coming soon, she will be launching a website that will have things that can't be found on her ETSY shop and she will also be starting a rewards program!

Elvin Circlet/Tiara

If you're going to do a medieval costume, why not top it off with a crown/circlet/tiara. There are thousands of different options out there if you look at ETSY. A few of my favorite things to look up is the Elvin circlet, autumn flower crown, or medieval tiara.

Links for a few circlet/tiara shops:

The one I'm wearing I ordered from Ayalga on ETSY. There's a ribbon that ties it together in the back and you can hide it in your hair.

Following up with the Professor Mcgonagall's Hat I created. I wanted to complete the costume with her green robe.

The robe was a little more difficult than the hat; mainly due to there not being a lot of pictures to go by. I did find a blog I used for resources on this build. www.cationdesigns.com. She was extremely helpful.

I used a dark green panne velvet fabric for the robe. The pictures make it look super dark or almost black, but trust me, it's green. The pictures don't do it justice.

I used the pattern Simplicity 9887 for the base of the build. It's the same pattern used for the hat.

I had to modify the entire pattern a good amount to make it look more like hers. I zoomed in on a picture of the back of the robe and hand-stitched the yoke for a good hour and a half. That was a tad challenging, but I finally got it the way I wanted.

I didn't have enough fabric to make the front part of the robe exactly like hers, but I got it as close as I could. The sleeves fit perfectly.

Chayla Photography Pictures to come soon in this cosplay!

Overall I'd say this is really close to movie accurate.
